Select the type of installation you require for Temprecord.

Install Temprecord Just For Me

If you choose this option, Temprecord will be only be installed for the current user.  Use this option if you do not want limited users of the computer to access the Temprecord application.  The user that installs Temprecord will have an entry placed on their start menu and a shortcut on their desktop unless these options are deselected in the later steps. Other administrator users will not be able to see any start menu entries, shortcuts, or quick launch icons for Temprecord.  In a default system however, other administrator users will be able to navigate to the program files folder of the user that installed Temprecord and create shortcuts to it.  Other (limited) users will not be able to see any shortcuts or data unless they have been granted access to the relevant files of that user.

The main purpose of the "Just for Me" installation option is not so much to prevent other users from accessing the Temprecord program (it would only take a quick search to find the program files), but to reduce the amount of "clutter" created by an installation of Temprecord, as no shortcuts or start menu entries are created on other users start menus or desktops.

Other users of the computer can install Temprecord also, and provided they also choose the "Just for Me" option, the start menus and desktops of the remaining  users will stay free of Temprecord shortcuts.

If you require temprecord to be installed for a subset of users, it is not actually necessary to re-install for those other users.  It should be sufficient to supply those other users with a shortcut to the executable at C:\Program Files\Temprecord\TRW\TRW.EXE. A shortcut in the user's start menu will need to be created manually however.  An installation of Temprecord "Just for Me" for any user does provide the association between the Temprecord program and .TR files for all users, so all users can double-click on .TR files to open them with Temprecord, regardless of whether Temprecord is installed for them or not.

Of course, if you require Temprecord installed for a large number of users, it is much easier to use the "All Users" or "All Users, Shared Settings" install options instead.

Install Temprecord for All Users, Separate Settings

If you choose this option, Temprecord will be installed for all users, but each user will have separate settings.  Each user of the computer (both limited and administrator) will have an entry on their start menu and a shortcut on their desktop unless these options are deselected in the later steps.

With this option, if any one user makes changes to the settings, any other users will subsequently find their settings unchanged - i.e. the settings are independent for each user.  This option is intended for situations where one computer is used by many users, but it is necessary for each user to have private settings and/or data.  Each user will need to set up the correct COM port and any other settings required.

Install Temprecord for All Users, Shared Settings

If you choose the first option, Temprecord will be installed for all users and the program settings will be shared.  Each user of the computer (both limited and administrator) will have an entry on their start menu and a shortcut on their desktop unless these options are deselected in the later steps.

With this option, if any one user makes changes to the settings, any other users will subsequently find those settings , i.e. the settings are not independent.  This option is intended for situations where one computer is used by many users and it has a reader attached.  Once one user sets up the correct COM port for the reader, it will be correct for all users.

Install Temprecord for All Users, Shared Settings, Remote EXE

Choose this option if the Temprecord executable file will be installed on a remote server (i.e. a network drive) and workstations on the network will access Temprecord over the network.  All users will share the settings.

Temprecord recommends that where possible the software be installed on all computers that will be running the program.  This installation option is provided for those cases where deployment to all workstations is impractical, however the operation of Temprecord may be less than optimal.

With this option, there are several points to be borne in mind:

Temprecord should only be installed on the remote server.  It should not be installed on the workstations as well.

Unless you have good reason for not doing so, we recommend you stay with the default installation folder of

      C:\Program Files\Temprecord\TRW

Installation creates a subfolder off the above folder into which the INI file is written.  All users must have write access to the above folder if they need to be able to change the program settings, and the installer should take care of this.  If they do not have write access, Temprecord will be unable to save the settings INI file when the program exits.  In this instance Temprecord will not report an error however.  Removal of write access to this folder essentially "locks down" the Temprecord settings.  Users will  be able to change settings during their Temprecord sessions, but their changes will not be saved when they exit.

If any user makes changes to the settings, any subsequent users will also find those settings altered.  For this reason, the settings for the COM port may not be correct on all machines, depending on the configuration of the serial ports.  Also, the list of recently accessed files will be of little use, as the pathname stored will likely refer to another user's computer.

If network users are intending to use the Temprecord Reader Interface to read loggers, the USB drivers will need to be manually installed.

The file association between .TR files and Temprecord will need to be manually set up, if users want to be able to open .TR files by double-clicking them.

There are other issues and alternatives when using this installation option. See the topic Specific issues when installing Temprecord on a network server.

You will not be able to advance to the next page of the installer unless one of the four options for the type of installation is selected.
